No, FeedCon is active when you buy it and the purchase includes a 3 month subscription, FeedCon has a fixed SIM card built into it (embedded SIM).

How does the communication between FeedCon and the app works?

FeedCon connects to the server every six hours and leaves and receives data. This means changing settings in e.g. the feeding schedule it is on these occasions that the change occurs. It says in the app when the next update will happen.
